VIRGIN MEDIA SAY THEY WILL NOT CUT OFF FILE SHARERS

Following a backlash to today’s news that Virgin Media has been sending out warning letters to 800 identified file-sharers, a company spokesman has stated that this is not a prelude to the ISP cutting off offenders’ internet connections.

As reported earlier, the letters being sent out have a warning on the envelope that reads: “Important. If you don’t read this, your broadband could be disconnected”. Clearly you’re reading that wrong though because Virgin isn’t actually going to disconnect you.

“We don’t make any kind of accusation about the user — it could be somebody else in their house, their block of flats or they might have an open Wi-Fi connection,” the spokesman told The Guardian this morning.

Virgin also reiterated that its plan is to educate users about what is kosher on the web and asserts that it’s not “pointing the finger at the account holder”. Interestingly though, the letters sent out include a message from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) which is backing the notion of giving dodgy users a series of warnings before cutting off their internet connection.

Naturally, that idea hasn’t been welcomed by anyone except the music industry. This morning’s back peddling by Virgin points to a potentially very exciting showdown between ISPs and music industry bodies. No one is loving Virgin’s Orwellian approach and it will clearly alienate consumers. With the company already getting bad publicity from its questionable adverts, maybe it will start to think seriously about sticking up for its customers for a change.

Guitar Hero: On Tour sells 300k in first week after US launch

Activision’s latest in the Guitar Hero series — Guitar Hero: On Tour — has sold 300,000 copies in its first week of release in the US, putting it in the company’s top five best-selling launch titles.

Mike Griffith, president and CEO, Activision Publishing, was suitably gushy about the whole thing, saying “Guitar Hero is one of the most successful entertainment properties and continues to push the boundaries of innovation with Guitar Hero: On Tour.”

It’ll arrive in the UK on 18th July, priced at £39.99 which includes the Guitar Grip, so we can look forward to a late summer of people strumming and thrashing on public transport.

Poveglia a spooky place

I was watching a program the other night on venice and was amazed by the story and happenings of Poveglia in venice,

Poveglia is one of the small islands in Venice that is not open to any public to go see, The history of this island is both intreging and frightfull,

It was once used to place the dead bodies of the black plague and those who were suffering from it, A plague doctor would look for people suffering from the plague and take them to this island to die, basicly they were dumped there.

long long after this a hospital was built there by a mad doctor who used to carry out experiments on people and basicly tourture them,

This place still stands today,

As you can imagin with all the events that have happened on this island there has got to be some real ghostly experiences there,

It is said that they do allow psycics on the island from time to time but most have left terrified!

This really got my interest so i was wondering if others know of any storys of people who have maybe gone there?
Eventually the doctor began to see the spirits himself and jumped (or was thrown?) from the bell tower to his death. Rumor has it he is now bricked up in that same tower. Some say you can still hear the bell ringing late at night.
